(13 abr. 1710, Weymouth, Mass., EE.UU.–31 ene. 1780, Londres, Inglaterra).

Explorador norteamericano. Combatió en la guerra de los franceses y los indios y en 1766 el cdte. Robert Rogers lo envió a explorar una zona al occidente de la parte norte de Michigan. Cruzó los Grandes Lagos, recorrió el río Mississippi y pasó el invierno en un caserío sioux. Aunque su diario de viaje (publicado en 1778) tuvo gran éxito, murió en la miseria.
